Control

This section contains information describing how to use the Oracle Net8 Assistant to control Names Servers.

Click on any one of the following to learn more about:

Server Operations-Start

 To start a Names Server, click on the Start button, then click Apply at the bottom of the tab panel. This will load the Names Server program and start loading system and local administrative region data. This command will not work if the Names Server is currently running.

Server Operations-Shutdown

To shut down a Names Server, click on the Shutdown button, then click Apply at the bottom of the tab panel. This will effectively stop the Names Server program. This command will not work if the Names Server is not currently running.

Server Operations-Restart

To restart a Names Server, click on the Restart button, then click Apply at the bottom of the tab panel. This will initiate a reset of the active Names Server to its original state at startup.

Statistics Operations-Write Statistics to Log

To write statistics to a log file, click on the Write Statistics to Log button, then click Apply at the bottom of the tab panel.

Statistics Operations-Reset Statistics

To reset the time interval during which a Names Server will accumulate statistics, click on the Reset Statistics button, then click Apply at the bottom of the tab panel.

Perform Operations

To specify a time interval during which Oracle Net8 Assistant will wait before performing an operation, enter a time interval in seconds in the Wait field provided. To perform operation immediately, click Immediately in the Perform Operations field. To cancel an already scheduled operation, enter a time value of zero in the Wait field provided.

Click Apply at the bottom of the tab panel to execute the command selected.

Apply

The Apply button will execute any command selected in the active tab panel.

Check Status

The Check Status button will restore the tab panel to its original setting.
